Earlier this year, Greg Wittstock — owner and CEO of Aquascape — connected us with duck influencer Krissy, better known online as Dunkin Ducks. At her property in Milford, PA, Krissy shared that while she'd built her ducks' existing pond herself, the waterfall kept clogging and she wanted a larger, more enjoyable space for her beloved birds.

Over the course of three days, Tim, Raph, and Baldo built an 8' x 11' ecosystem pond featuring a wetland filter, beach entry, serene waterfall, and overflow system. The wetland filter was an especially important component of the design, helping manage and filter the heavy waste load that naturally comes with keeping ducks.

During the build, Krissy shared that she'd started the year with a list of personal goals. Two of those goals were building a larger pond for her ducks and relocating a large rock that had been near their pen. As the project came together, we realized we could accomplish both at once by incorporating the rock into the waterfall design. By the end of the build, Krissy was thrilled to see not one, but two items checked off her list in the same week.

The highlight came when the ducks were introduced to their new pond. They immediately began swimming, diving, and even sliding down the waterfall — making all the hard work worthwhile. While this pond isn't intended to be their full-time home, it serves as a special retreat where the ducks can enjoy an hour or two of supervised pond time each day. Limiting their access helps keep the ecosystem healthy and the water cleaner while still providing an enriching environment to explore.

We're grateful for the opportunity to work with Krissy and create a one-of-a-kind retreat that both she and her ducks can enjoy for years to come.

Greg & Dixie - Warwick, NY

A custom 20' x 30' Recreational Pond with a 4-foot swimming depth, wetland filtration, and twelve LED lights, built in just ten days.

For Greg and his wife, Dixie, living near water had always been a meaningful part of life.

"We had both lived in places where there had been water nearby at different times of our lives," Greg recalls. "That always becomes the focal point of your life when you're near water."

When they purchased their home in Warwick, New York, they loved the property, but something was missing. Without a nearby lake or stream, they wondered how they could bring that same sense of peace and connection to nature into their own backyard.

After seeing Garden State Koi's trucks around town, Greg and Dixie stopped by the Design Center several times. While they admired the displays, they hadn't seriously considered installing a large water feature until they attended one of Garden State Koi's annual Pond Tours.

"We did a pond tour with Garden State Koi and we saw some incredible koi ponds. When we realized we could go in them and swim with the fish, we both thought, 'Well, that just is the best idea.'"

Following a consultation with our design team, Greg and Dixie established a budget and in 2022, our installation team turned their vision into reality. Tim and his crew constructed a custom 20' x 30' Recreational Pond in just ten days.

This ecosystem-based Recreational Pond features a 4-foot swimming depth, a skim cove, a wetland filtration system, twelve LED lights, and natural stepping stones that seamlessly blend into the landscape. Rather than choosing a traditional swimming pool, Greg and Dixie embraced a natural swimming experience, one that is free of harsh chemicals and shared with koi, frogs, and the other wildlife that now call the pond home.

One of their favorite parts of the pond: the sound.

"Even when we're up on the back deck of the house having dinner or sitting around with friends, we can hear the water," Greg says.

Today, their Recreational Pond has become exactly what they hoped it would be: the centerpiece of their outdoor living space. It provides a place to swim, relax, entertain family and friends, and reconnect with the calming presence of water every day.
