Garden State Koi is a dedicated water feature company serving the Somerset Hills and Raritan Valley from our Warwick, NY design center and retail store — ponds and waterfalls are all we do, not a landscaping sideline. Somerset County sits in the Somerset Hills and Raritan Valley.

Somerset County splits neatly in two for pond design: the wooded Somerset Hills in the north, and the flatter Raritan Valley in the south. The Hills give you natural grade for streams and waterfalls. The Valley gives you space and sun, and asks us to build the elevation instead. Garden State Koi designs, installs, and maintains water features across both.

Somerset County jobs run about 70-90 minutes from Warwick, depending on how far south you are.

The Somerset Hills: Slope, Traprock, and Big Canvases

Bernardsville, Far Hills, Peapack-Gladstone, Bedminster, and the Watchung ridge in Warren sit on hilly ground with basalt traprock underneath. Excavation is slower and rockier than the numbers on a plan suggest, and we price accordingly rather than discovering it mid-build.

What you get in exchange is the best kind of site for a naturalistic water feature. A drop of eight or ten feet across a back yard lets us build a stream with several distinct falls, each with its own sound, that reads as though it predates the house. On the larger estate lots up here a recreational pond is genuinely on the table, not just a koi pond.

The Raritan Valley: Flat Lots, Clay, and Water Table

Bridgewater, Hillsborough, Somerville, and the flatter parts of Warren are a different design problem. Lots are generous and sunny but close to level, and soils run to clay with a higher water table near the Raritan River and its tributaries.

Flat means the waterfall elevation has to be built. Done badly that is the classic pimple-of-rock-in-a-lawn. Done properly the berm is integrated into a planted bed so the grade change looks like part of the garden. Clay also holds water against the outside of a liner, so we pay attention to perimeter drainage, and full sun on an open lot means surface coverage from lilies and a correctly sized skimmer matter more here than in a shaded Hills yard.

    Somerset County Service and Access

Somerset is at the southern edge of our regular service map, so we batch design visits and installs to keep the drive efficient. That is worth knowing when you are scheduling: Somerset work books in blocks, and spring slots go early.

For ongoing care, most Somerset clients are on a maintenance membership so their spring opening and fall closing are already on the route. One-off emergency calls this far south are possible but not same-day.

Yes. We design and install ecosystem koi ponds, pondless waterfalls, streams, and fountainscapes across Somerset County, including Bridgewater, Warren, Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Far Hills, and Bedminster.
